Receiving Ambassadors of Mangrove

(HUFO) On August 23, at Friendship House, Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) and Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam - Japan Friendship Association co-held the cultural exchange between a group of Japanese pupils from Tierra Elementary School - Japan and HCMC-based Japanese Language Center Marayama.

Annually, the pupils of Tierra School - Kobe City - Japan pay part of their summertime for the program ‘Ambassadors of Mangrove’ in  Ho Chi Minh City. They challenge themselves by planting trees in mangrove forest in HCMC’s Can Gio District, bringing the message of ‘protecting the nature is protect our living environment’.

Tierra School was founded in 1976, and operated in not only the field of education. It runs many programs in which the pupils can visit other countries and explore their cultures every summer. In 1997, its pupils went to mangrove forest in Can Gio District - HCMC, and helped to build 5 houses there. This project is one of Tierra’s traditional activities, and has been maintained for 17 years.

Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, Secretary General of HUFO, highly appreciated the field trip of Tierra’s pupils as well as their environmental awareness and contribution to the better surroundings of HCMC.

Vietnamese pupils studying at Japanese Murayama School took this opportunity to have cultural and linguistic exchange with their Japanese fellows.
